There are herbs that are helpful for sleep, for example, valerian, kava kava, chamomile, hops, passion flower, skullcap. Probably valerian and kava kava for the best. Using herbs can take several weeks to build up your system before it works.

You can also try 5-HTP, trytophan, GABA or melatonin (mg) 2-3. I take melatonin for over a month, if your doctor tells you that it's okay. It is a hormone produced by the pineal gland. If you take too much, the pineal gland as "lazy" and produce less melatonin naturally.

A hot bath is a great way to relax and to help you sleep. If you do not take a bath, you can save yourself a foot massage with warm massage oil, sesame oil, castor oil or natural foods.

What is interesting for me, especially when my heart was racing, it was to stay in bed and listen to relaxation CDs, especially talk that someone in the relaxing background music included. Many of these CDs are available on eBay at very low prices.

A useful technique is to relax the bodysome of both. So your feet, legs, thighs can relax into the abdomen, chest, etc., until you relax your whole body.

Of course, guided relaxation techniques can help to imagine, in the country, the beach, or what is comforting for you.

If you disturb any ideas or personal problems that need to go through your head when you try to have to sleep, check with these issues first. You can talk to a counselor or therapist about it. I suggest to avoid sleeping tablets, if no improvement.
